Our theme this month is Self-Care and boy is this a timely topic. May feels like it is still kind of early in the year, but really it is almost the half—way point in the year! For therapists this might mean that your last vacation was in DECEMBER, which was nearly 6 months ago!! Think about this, you and your clients have dealt with coming back from the holiday stress, spring break chaos (especially if you’re in Austin for SXSW), and end of the school year anxiety. I know there are some “rule of thumb” numbers around how many vacation days to take for therapists, but here we will just be offering the space to open the conversation on the importance of DAYS OFF!!!
In private practice, we dictate our schedules- sort of. This might be one of the reasons we entered into private practice. However, the truth is a lot of other issues might end up DICTATING OUR SCHEDULES. Below are some issues that might impede our abilities to take time off and for ourselves:
